“We WILL Work With Your Child”

— Dr. Hickman

Our approach to functional health

Your movement.
Your daily life.
Your care.

A chiropractic foundation, with attention to the way you move and the activities that matter to you.

Here, “functional health” describes an approach to individual chiropractic care. It brings together structural care, movement, and selected interactive activities when appropriate to your examination.

Branches & leaves

Brain &
Body Function.

We incorporate principles and activities from the Melillo Method to evaluate patterns of sensory, motor, and developmental function. This includes assessing primitive reflex patterns and identifying retained reflexes that may benefit from targeted integration activities.

We also look for functional differences in how the two sides of the brain respond to sensory and motor challenges. These findings help us develop an individualized program of exercises and activities designed to support coordination, development, and healthy central nervous system function.

Roots

Sensory &
Proprioceptive Input.

The nervous system continually receives information from the muscles, joints, and surrounding environment. Proprioceptive and sensory input plays an important role in movement, coordination, balance, and body awareness.

Based on each patient’s individual findings and goals, we may incorporate specific exercises and other supportive technologies or modalities, including VibePlate, Rezzimax, Pulse Device, laser, TENS, Neurosage, and Interactive Metronome.

No two programs are exactly alike. Activities and modalities are selected and individualized based on each patient’s needs and response to care.

Beyond the appointment

Make space
for questions.

Will I have exercises to do at home?

Not so much for purely structural cases but neurological cases will require daily exercises.

Does functional health mean medical neurology?

Dr. Hickman is a Doctor of Chiropractic. The services described here are offered within chiropractic practice. Medical neurological diagnosis and treatment should be discussed with an appropriately qualified medical professional.

Can I discuss concerns about my child?

Yes. Call the office to explain what brings you in and ask whether a chiropractic evaluation is appropriate. Share relevant diagnoses and care from other providers so recommendations can take your child’s history into account.

How will we know whether care is helping?

Ask Dr. Hickman to identify the goals of your plan and how he will review your response. Recommendations may change with your findings, comfort, and progress. Specific results cannot be promised in advance.
